UCLA Football Recruiting: Unveiling The Skillset of UCLA Commit Mark Schroller

Mark Schroller, a 2024 Mission Viejo product, has a ton of upside. We took a look at the offensive tackle's film to put into words why exactly Bruins fans may see him in the starting lineup sooner than expected.
In this story:

Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, CA) 2024 offensive tackle Mark Schroller is one of three offensive tackles currently committed to UCLA in their 2024 class. According to 247 Sports, he is the 30th-best 2024 offensive tackle in the country and the 37th-best recruit in California.

So, what did Schroller do to earn these rankings? AllBruins.com looked at all of his available Hudl film to better illustrate why UCLA wants him and how quickly he could appear in the trenches in Westwood.

He passes the eyes test, that’s for sure. But just because you’re big doesn’t make you unique. It’s Schroller’s combination of size, speed, and attention to detail that makes him stand out from his peers.

The 6-6, 275-pound Schroller is a technician. We are higher on Schroller than most because of this very reason. He explodes out of his stance with a purpose and fantastic angles directed at his target. Playing in a very competitive league, Schroller knows what it’s like to line up against somebody just as, if not more, talented than him.

Based on his film, he gives off the appearance that he reverts back to sound fundamentals upon facing top competition. This is a huge green flag for college recruiters. NFL projections aside, college coaches drool at the opportunity to coach athletes who have the physical tangibles and are receptive to coaching.

Pad level is a concern, but the young man is 6’6, and pad level is coachable. His first step off the line of scrimmage is intentional and not reactionary. He tends to show his hands too early in his pass sets, but again, that is coachable.

The bottom line on Schroller is that if he cleans up the little things, sky is the limit. With power and quickness, both of which he has in troves, we think Schroller may enter the UCLA starting lineup sooner than most expect.
