UCLA Football: Beavers TE, Credited For Crucial Role In Bruins Win, Has Been Key Player For Weeks

One of their best players in Week 7.

Oregon State conquered UCLA in their most recent match on the gridiron by a final score of 36-24 Saturday night.

Week 7 wasn't the Bruins' finest showing on all fronts after being dominated on all three levels throughout the game.

Joel Odom of the Oregonian detailed one player who helped the Beavers' offense through this most recent dominant stretch of his career.

Yeah, huge plays tonight, a lot of it was coverage recognition by the quarterback. I think Aidan (Chiles) does a great job. It’s third down, we’re trying to throw the ball into the end zone, they were soft in coverage. Jack’s the one in the flat. Aidan recognizes it, getting the touchdown. Later, DJ, we’ve got some other stuff on the outside, goes to cover two. They got open middle coverage and he creases that thing. That was a good ball, Jack comes down with it. Big play by Jack after we’re faking more or less Wildcat run with DJ underneath, defender gets under, tips it, Silas (Bolden) catches the ball. And then later, when we’re trying to throw a wheel round to Jack, Jack goes up and high points the ball, so a bunch of plays by Velling.

Velling grabbed two touchdowns on three total receptions for 83 yards from his tight end position and proved most impactful on Oregon State's win.

Chip Kelly's men failed to stop Velling on multiple occasions, as his normally vaunted defense couldn't seal anything from the Beavers' offensive attack.

Dante Moore also shoulders some blame after three picks led to the Beavers' scores and dug the Bruins some deep holes to climb out of.

Unable to get the job done on the road, UCLA will regroup on the fringes of the AP Top 25 against Stanford coming up next.
