UCLA Football: Bruins Coach Chip Kelly Tops Embarrassing List
The world was a bit stunned when Chip Kelly was retained as the head coach of the UCLA Bruins. Kelly's tenure as the head coach began in 2018 and has led to a 34-34 record, and one bowl game.
Everyone had assumed that Kelly would be packing his bags after this season resulted in yet another disappointing end, with the Bruins ending the season on a 7-5 record. However, Martin Jammond revealed the program would keep Kelly for at least one more season.
Shortly after the announcement, it appeared as though many players had entered the Transfer Portal. This includes Dante Moore who stated he wanted to go somewhere where he could be more "developed." Kelly's criticism has not stopped here, as he now tops an embarrassing list.
According to a list by Big Game Boomer, Chip Kelly comes in as the most unlikeable coach in college football. Though this list is subjective, it doesn't look good for Kelly. His reputation has certainly dive-bombed after not taking the Bruins to the College Football Playoffs.
To make matters worse, UCLA also allowed D'Anton Lynn to leave as defensive coordinator for the USC Trojans. Lynn had transformed the defense from #89 to #11 in the NCAAF in one year.
Kelly had stated that the Bruins were not willing to pay Lynn what he was asking for, and he ended up at their crosstown Rivals.
The good news is that Chip Kelly will have one more chance to rally his team, as the Bruins are set to take on Boise State this Saturday for the LA Bowl. Should they win spectacularly, the opinion of Kelly could change heading into the 2024 season.
The 2024 season will be full of changes, as the Bruins will officially join the Big Ten conference. Hopefully, Kelly will have the right team in place to make a much deeper run.
