UCLA Football: Bruins Pressure Defense Against Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders Key In Win

They made his life tough all game long.

Entering the UCLA Bruins’ game against the Colorado Buffalos this past Saturday, the biggest challenge for the Bruins was slowing down the Colorado offense. It has given teams problems all season long, so the Bruins knew they needed to be prepared to enter the game.

The Buffalos were coming off a bye week, and they were desperate for a victory to help salvage their season. But the Bruins had other ideas, and they shut down the Colorado offense en route to a 28-16 win in front of the UCLA faithful.

The defense led the way once again for UCLA, and it has become their identity this season. They were harassing Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders the entire game, and they never let him get into a rhythm on the field.

UCLA head coach Chip Kelly spoke about the game, and how they got to Sanders throughout.

“It’s a combination. It’s always what is going on, on that back end, and then the pass rush that you can generate. And I think because our guys did a really good job in coverage, they forced Shedeur [Sanders] to hold onto the ball a little bit more. That lets the rush get home, so it was a combination of both. There wasn’t one more than the other. I think that it was a combination of all 11 that really did it.”

Per Andrew Wagner, UCLA Communications

The Buffalos quarterback was limited to throwing just 217 yards and one touchdown in the matchup. He looked uncomfortable all game, and the Bruins racked up seven sacks in the win.

It was the kind of defensive effort that was scripted, but it was the reality for the Bruins on Saturday. They made life tough for Sanders all game long, and it helped them get the big win.

UCLA continues their dominant play on the defensive side of the ball, and it has helped them become one of the best in the country. They get another chance to show what they can do this weekend as they head to Arizona for a matchup with the Wildcats.
