UCLA Football: Chip Kelly Interviewing For NFL OC Opening Tonight
UCLA football head coach Chip Kelly is interviewing for another NFL offensive coordinator position today, with the Seattle Seahawks, via Benjamin Solak of The Ringer.
The timing of the interview is especially noteworthy, with Kelly interviewing on National Signing Day.
The Seahawks are looking for a new OC after finalizing their hire of former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as head coach. The Seahawks are also considering Ryan Grubb and Tanner Engstrand for their OC vacancy.
Bringing in Kelly to the Seahawks could make a ton of sense for Seattle, who have drafted and signed multiple former Bruins, including running back Zach Charbonnet and wide receiver Jake Bobo.
It appears that Kelly's time with the Bruins may be coming to a close, with the coach continuing to seek out other opportunities. Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported earlier this week that Kelly has been seeking a return to the NFL, and trying to maximize his opportunities to do so.
Kelly previously interviewed for the Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator opening twice. Kelly was also reportedly in consideration for the Washington Commanders OC position, before they hired Kliff Kingsbury.
Kelly's name has also been floated around with other college football programs. There have been rumors tying him to Boston College, and Kelly himself reportedly reached out to Kirk Ferentz to become the offensive coordinator of Iowa.
All in all, it looks like there's a chance that Kelly is on his way out from UCLA. Kelly has coached the Bruins since 2018, but has an overall record of 35-34 and a conference record of 26-26, which has left more to be desired. If Kelly does want out, it might be best for both sides to start fresh.
