UCLA Football: Chip Kelly Reveals When Search For New Defensive Coordinator Will Happen
The UCLA Bruins suffered a huge coaching loss this off-season when their defensive coordinator, D’Anton Lynn, left to become the new DC for their cross-town rivals, the USC Trojans.
That will leave the Bruins without a permanent defensive coordinator for the time being and for their upcoming game against the Boise State Broncos in the LA Bowl.
UCLA head coach Chip Kelly revealed to UCLA insider James Williams of the OC Register that the search for a new DC will commence after the bowl game.
For their upcoming game, which takes place on December 16th, outside linebacker/defensive line coach Ikaika Malloe will be calling the plays on defense for the Bruins.
There are a ton of options for the Bruins as they look for another great season on that side of the ball in 2024. If all goes well against Bosie State, maybe Malloe could fill the role. There are other great in-house options for the Bruins, like their inside linebacker coach, Ken Norton. Norton bounced around the NFL and college games, coaching the best defenders of the past decade.
The search for a new DC will be thorough as they look to have repeat success entering a new conference.
