UCLA Football News: Chip Kelly's Success Against Ranked Foes Sets Him Apart
UCLA head coach Chip Kelly will enter his sixth season as the main guy for the Bruins. Throughout his tenure, Kelly has gone an unimpressive 27-29, with a win percentage of .482. That's a 180 turn from his time at Oregon, where he spent four seasons and had a win percentage of .868.
Kelly's time at UCLA started rocky, but his last couple of seasons have been promising, although disappointing at the same time, but not compared to the start. Even though the overall numbers are;t impressive, Kelly is still among the best when it comes to facing Top 25 teams; in fact, he's ranked among the best in College Football in that category.
Kelly ranks number six against top 25 teams with a record of 20-16, the second-best in the Pac-12.
Chip Kelly piled up wins over quality opponents in rapid succession during his illustrious tenure at Oregon, but his time at UCLA has been a bit more arduous. After three straight losing seasons to start with the Bruins following his NFL years, Kelly has back to back winning campaigns and is 3-2 against top 25 opponents over that stretch. UCLA likely plays three ranked opponents (Utah, Oregon State and USC) during the regular season. And in 2024, the Bruins are officially members of the Big Ten.

Kelly is above coaches like Jimbo Fisher, Josh Heupel, Brian Kelly, and Jim Harbaugh. Granted, most of his success came in his time at Oregon, but he has had some success in his time leading the Bruins.
Their last season in the pac-12 will be as good a chance as any to build on that record as they will possibly face three ranked teams on their schedule this season. It'll be fun and interesting to see how the Bruins respond to the challenges and how much they've improved from last season to this one.
