They may be late to the party, but the Bruins are moving forward in their pursuit of one of the best defensive players in the West.

Class of 2024 defensive lineman Aydin Breland picked up an offer from UCLA football on Wednesday, the recruit announced Wednesday night on Twitter. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound prospect is coming off a breakout season at Mater Dei (CA), and he has the high-level interest to match it.

Breland announced his top 10 semifinalists on May 12, narrowing his list down to Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, USC, Miami (FL), Nebraska and Texas A&M. He had additional offers from Alabama, Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Colorado, Kansas, Michigan State, Nevada, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wisconsin.

Breland started taking unofficial visits early in 2022, stopping by Oregon, Alabama and Georgia. After taking gameday visits to Oklahoma and Texas A&M in the fall, Breland took unofficials to Miami and Penn State in March. Breland also went to Miami, Georgia and Nebraska's spring games.

As a sophomore, Breland recorded nine tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack in six appearances. Breland took a step forward as a junior, racking up 24 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, three quarterback hurries and four passes defended across 10 games.

Breland is a five-star recruit, according to 247Sports, but Rivals, ESPN and On3 all have him pegged as a four-star. In the 247Sports Composite, Breland is the No. 3 player in California, the No. 6 defensive lineman in his country and the No. 37 overall prospect in his class.

Among defensive linemen in the West and Mountain regions, Breland ranks No. 1. Breland is also the top-ranked defensive prospect in California.

UCLA has now offered three defensive lineman in the class of 2024, with Breland joining five-star Miami Central (FL) prospect T.A. Cunningham and three-star Salpointe Catholic (AZ) product Keona Wilhite.

The Bruins have also turned up the heat in their recruitment of Mater Dei during the current cycle. After only offering two players out of the local high school powerhouse in 2023, UCLA has sent seven class of 2024 Mater Dei prospects an offer so far.

UCLA has three commits for its 2024 recruiting class at the moment – four-star cornerback Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins, three-star offensive tackle Mark Schroller and three-star offensive tackle Joshua Glanz. The Bruins' class currently ranks No. 59 in the country and No. 7 in the Pac-12.

Breland is teammates with Dunbar-Hawkins at Mater Dei. In January, Dunbar-Hawkins became the first Mater Dei product to commit to UCLA since safety William Nimmo Jr. in October 2018.
