UCLA Football Sending 4 Representatives to NFL Scouting Combine
NFL Draft season is only heating up, and a handful of Bruins have booked their time in the spotlight.
UCLA football quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, running back Zach Charbonnet, wide receiver Jake Bobo and offensive lineman Jon Gaines II all earned invitations to the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday. Offensive lineman Atonio Mafi and wide receiver Kazmeir Allen, meanwhile, were notably absent from the list of 319 players who made the cut.
The combine will take place between February 26 to March 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Defensive players will hear their numbers called first that week, but no Bruin from that side of the ball is set to make an appearance. Thompson-Robinson and Bobo will be the first UCLA products to take center stage, registering on Feb. 28 and having their on-the-field workouts on March 4.
Thompson-Robinson started 48 games over the past five years with the Bruins, setting new school records for total yards, total touchdowns and more. Bobo joined UCLA last offseason after a four-year career at Duke, and the 6-foot-5 veteran immediately emerged as the team's top option in the passing game.
Charbonnet and Gaines will register on March 1 and work out on March 5.
Gaines played five seasons with the Bruins, emerging as a consistent starter over the past three years at right guard, right tackle and center. Charbonnet transferred to UCLA from Michigan in 2021, and he racked up 3,014 total yards and 27 touchdowns across his two seasons in Westwood.
Thompson-Robinson, Bobo and Gaines – as well as Allen and Mafi – were at the East-West Shrine Bowl in Las Vegas from Jan. 27 to Feb. 2. Thompson-Robinson, especially, was hailed as one of the big winners of the event, and he is now one of the 15 quarterbacks headed to Indianapolis.
Last year, UCLA sent five players to the NFL Scouting Combine – wide receiver Kyle Philips, tight end Greg Dulcich, offensive lineman Sean Rhyan, defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia and safety Quentin Lake. All five of those players were selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.
UCLA typically hosts its pro day in mid-March, roughly two weeks after the combine. Thompson-Robinson, Charbonnet, Bobo and Gaines should make additional appearances back in Westwood, as well as Mafi, Allen, left tackle Raiqwon O'Neal, safety Stephan Blaylock and other veterans who have ended their college respective careers.
