UCLA Football: Starting Quarterback Collin Schlee Departs Bruins Game Against ASU
Former third-string UCLA Bruins quarterback Collin Schlee, who had started tonight's miserable game against the Arizona State Sun Devils, appeared to suffer some kind of head injury late in the closing minutes of what's looking like an eventual loss to the 2-7 Arizona State Sun Devils.
He departed at the 2:35 mark of regulation, with ASU leading 17-7. He dropped to one knee on the team's sideline, where he was promptly examined by team trainers.
Schlee's backup, UCLA's fourth-string play caller Chase Griffin, is finishing out the game in front of several very disappointed Bruins fans at the Rose Bowl.
For evening, Schlee had a fairly uneventful night. He passed for just 117 yards on 11-of-18 attempts, averaging just 6.5 yards per catch, while scoring one touchdown -- that TD marked his first-ever with the Bruins.
Barring some kind of miracle, this is looking like a brutal loss, which has effectively killed any significant hopes for Chip Kelly's squad of making major postseason noise. This will mark UCLA's first home loss of the season, as the Bruins had won their previous four contests on their native Pasadena turf.
Will Schlee, Griffin, Dante Moore or Ethan Garbers start next week against the USC Trojans in an epic crosstown Pac-12 showdown? Time will tell.
