UCLA football is playing Hawaii in its 2021 season opener, its fourth under coach Chip Kelly.

Stay tuned for injury and personnel updates, highlights and other key events to keep an eye on all day long.

FINAL: UCLA 44, Hawaii 10

4:01 p.m.: Not much action down the stretch, as the Bruins took care of business with minimal drama, if any.

Go HERE for All Bruin’s wrap of the game

Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA): 10-for-20, 130 yards
Chevan Cordeiro (Hawaii): 25-for-47, 230 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT

Zach Charbonnet (UCLA): 106 rush yards, 3 TD
Brittain Brown (UCLA): 78 rush yards, 1 TD

Calvin Tuner Jr. (Hawaii): 5 receptions, 50 yards
Kazmeir Allen (UCLA): 2 receptions, 47 yards, 1 TD

Datona Jackson (UCLA): 3 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 0.5 TFL, 1 INT
Stephan Blaylock (UCLA): 4 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1 forced fumble
Ale Kaho (UCLA): 1 tackle, 1.0 sacks, 1.0 TFL, 1 punt block
Khoury Bethley (Hawaii): 6 tackles, 0.5 TFL, 1 PBU

Defense continues to make plays

3:42 p.m.: Cordeiro is going to need an ice bath or two after Saturday's game, and maybe a good night's sleep as well. He's been beaten and battered all day long, and even when he wasn't getting hit, he was forced to flush out and throw deep on the run.

While he connected on a few big plays to open receivers as part of a touchdown drive that cut UCLA's lead to 44-10, Cordeiro wound up tossing his second pick of the day as the clock winded down in the fourth quarter. Safety DJ Warnell broke up the pass and cornerback Jay Shaw got the interception.

Special teams woes continue for Rainbow Warriors

2:48 p.m.: It didn't seem like it would get much worse for Hawaii punter Matthew Shipley after he accidentally knelt down on his first attempt of the game, giving UCLA the ball in his team's red zone.

Bad turned to worse for Shipley, who punted pretty much into Ale Kaho's chest and saw his latest attempt blocked and returned for six. Kaho had his eye on the ball the second the ball was snapped, and he got back untouched to tilt the game even further in the Bruins' favor.

Tight end David Priebe recovered in the end zone for the touchdown. Nicholas Barr-Mira's extra point put UCLA up 44-3 early here in the third quarter.

Thompson-Robinson shakes off rust

2:39 p.m.: One of the few notable negatives for UCLA in the first half was Dorian Thompson-Robinson's performance. He was pretty solid as a runner, picking up 19 yards on two attempts and not getting sacked, but he was 4-for-12 through the air with just 45 yards.

Thompson-Robinson matched that production in just one play to open the second half, bombing one deep down the right sideline to Kazmeir Allen.

He was 4-for-4 with 73 yards and a touchdown on the drive. His passer rating is now sitting at 132.6 and the Bruins are up 37-3. Nicholas Barr-Mira missed the extra point badly, not that it matters at this point anyways.

HALFTIME: UCLA 31, Hawaii 3

2:14 p.m.: No points were scored in the final 11 minutes of the first half, but the damage was already done. The Bruins are running away with this one – literally.

Charbonnet and Brown have combined for 182 yards on 18 carries, and UCLA is out-rushing Hawaii 203-24 as a team. All four touchdowns have come on the ground, three of which are courtesy of Charbonnet. Suffice to say UCLA fans are glad he decided to ditch Michigan this past offseason.

The defense has started giving up a few more plays than it did the first few drives, but three 4th down stops show they're much improved situationally over last season. Datona Jackson made the defensive play of the half with his interception, while Mitchell Agude and Bo Calvert have also swatted down passes in the backfield. Overall, UCLA has 2.0 sacks, 4.0 tackles for loss and four pass breakups.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA): 4-for-12, 45 yards
Chevan Cordeiro (Hawaii): 14-for-30, 119 yards, 1 INT

Zach Charbonnet (UCLA): 106 rush yards, 3 TD
Brittain Brown (UCLA): 76 rush yards, 1 TD

Calvin Tuner Jr. (Hawaii): 4 receptions, 41 yards
Greg Dulcich (UCLA): 1 reception, 15 yards

Datona Jackson (UCLA): 3 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 0.5 TFL, 1 INT
Stephan Blaylock (UCLA): 4 tackles, 1.0 TFL, 1 forced fumble
Khoury Bethley (Hawaii): 4 tackles, 1 PBU

Charbonnet is a problem

1:25 p.m.: Zach Charbonnet is just absolutely dominating this game and it's not even the end of the first quarter.

The Michigan transfer just ran one 47 yards for a touchdown and he has 81 yards and two touchdowns less than one quarter into his UCLA career. Not a bad start for the tailback.

Defense suffocating Hawaii, providing points

1:12 p.m.: This UCLA front seven is absolutely tormenting Cordeiro, They've swatted down two passes and now have an interception thanks to Datona Jackson.

Jackson returned it 11 yards to set up another short drive for the Bruins. This time, they cashed in with a touchdown off of a Brittain Brown 1-yard score. Hawaii is also all out of timeouts for the rest of the first half, barely midway through the opening quarter now down 17-0.

Running backs starting hot

1:05 p.m.: Brittain Brown got three carries in a row for a total of 39 yards before Michigan transfer Zach Charbonnet came in to shake up the pace a bit.

All he did then was pick up a 3rd-and-long, then run one in from 21 yards out for his first touchdown in blue and gold. UCLA goes up 10-0 halfway through the first quarter.

Surprise turn of events, Bruins take the lead

12:45 p.m.: After forcing a 3-and-out on the first series of the game, UCLA got a nice break when a video review showed Hawaii's punter had his knee down when he caught the snap. Instead of getting it inside their own 20, the Bruins got it the the Rainbow Warriors' red zone.

Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson started things off by overthrowing receiver Kyle Philips on what should have been an open touchdown. The next play, he made an interesting choice cutting it to outside when staying upfield would have given him the first.

The Bruins wound up sending Nicholas Barr-Mira out to kick a 27-yard field goal. The try was good, and UCLA is up 3-0 early.

The return of the visor

12:15 p.m.: As far as we've seen, Kelly has yet to wearing a visor during a game since getting to UCLA. It was a trademark of his at Oregon, and it even made frequent appearances when Kelly was with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it seemed to disappear from his wardrobe when he arrived in Westwood.

Kelly was spotted wearing a white visor on the sidelines before the game Saturday. Whether or not it will lead to good luck and a win remains to be seen, but it is an interesting choice to open the season with.

Sam Marrazzo out

12:11 p.m.: Redshirt junior center Sam Marrazzo was not seen taking snaps with the rest of the centers and quarterbacks during warmups, and he later appeared on the field in street clothes. He isn't wearing any cast, brace or anything else – it just seems like he isn't 100% back from his knee injury from last December.

Jon Gaines II will get the start at center, with Bruno Fina as the backup and Duke Clemens able to rotate in as well.
