The Bruins' staff has sent their first offer of the evaluation period.

Class of 2024 shooting guard Eric Freeny reeled in an offer from UCLA men's basketball, the Compton Magic revealed Monday on Twitter. The Bruins are officially the first high major team in on the 6-foot-5 prospect from Centennial (CA).

Freeny's other offers are from Loyola Marymount, Nevada, New Mexico, Portland, Portland State, UC Irvine, UNLV and Weber State.

Freeny opened up his AAU season with the Compton Magic this past weekend, taking part in the adidas 3SSB Chapter 1 in Omaha, Nebraska. According to 247Sports' Bruin Report Online, coach Mick Cronin and assistant coach Rod Palmer were watching the Magic closely at the event.

Palmer co-founded the Magic back in 1993, and UCLA has retained a steady relationship with the program since he joined the staff in Westwood in 2019. Over the years, the Bruins have added Magic alumni Arron Afflalo, Ike Anigbogu, TJ Leaf, Jaylen Hands, Jalen Hill, Jules Bernard, Johnny Juzang, Jaylen Clark and Dylan Andrews.

Just this past year, UCLA picked up a commitment from class of 2023 power forward Devin Williams. The four-star big man didn't just play for the Magic – he also went to Centennial, where he was teammates alongside Freeny during the high school season as well.

Centennial went 30-4 last season, led by a senior Williams and a junior Freeny, among other top recruits. The Huskies won their third straight CIF-SS Open Division title in February, becoming the first school ever to accomplish the feat.

Freeny is a three-star prospect, according to 247Sports, although he is not rated by Rivals, ESPN or On3. In 247Sports' rankings, Freeny is the No. 18 player in California and the No. 43 shooting guard in the country. He is not in the database's top 100 nationally.

UCLA has now offered 12 players in the class of 2024, and Freeny is the only one who is not rated as a four-star or above by 247Sports. The Bruins do not have a commit in the upcoming class, and four of their targets have already committed elsewhere.
