Report: UCLA Reaches Out to Dayton Transfer Mustapha Amzil

The Finnish forward played three seasons with the Flyers before entering the portal and drawing interest from Miami, Memphis and others.

The Bruins are staying active in the transfer portal.

UCLA men's basketball has reached out to former Dayton power forward Mustapha Amzil, according to Stockriser.com's Jake Weingarten. Miami (FL) and Oklahoma are also in contact, per Weingarten, while Amzil already visited Memphis and New Mexico.

Amzil entered the transfer portal on March 21, marking an end to his three-year career with the Flyers.

The 6-foot-10, 220-pound floor stretcher is a three-star transfer, according to 247Sports.

Amzil was a three-star recruit coming out of Finland in 2020. Suiting up for undefeated HBA-Märsky, Amzil averaged 10.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Amzil was the captain of Team Finland at the 2019 U18 European Championships in Latvia, averaging 12.4 points and 7.3 rebounds across seven games.

Illinois, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Marquette and DePaul were among the other schools contending for Amzil before he eventually committed to Dayton.

Amzil was a day one regular in the starting lineup, scoring 22 point in his collegiate debut. That season, Amzil averaged 9.9 points and 5.6 rebounds in 29.9 minutes per game while shooting 49.6% from the field, 38.2% from deep and 76.5% from the free throw line.

Dayton improved to 24-11 the next season, but with Amzil largely coming off the bench. The second-year forward averaged 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game, all while his 3-point shooting dipped to 29.5%.

Amzil bounced back as a redshirt sophomore, putting up 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 29.5 minutes per game en route to another winning season for the Flyers. His shooting efficiency climbed back up as well, hitting 36.6% of his 3-pointers and a career-high 79.5% of his free throws.

In all three of his seasons at the NCAA level, Amzil shot more 3-pointers and 3-pointers.

UCLA has already reeled in Utah transfer Lazar Stefanovic, another lengthy shooting wing with plenty of collegiate experience. The team is also reportedly in the market for other transfers and international recruits to help replace Jaime Jaquez Jr., Jaylen Clark and David Singleton's outgoing production.

Whether the Bruins reel in Amzil, USC's Reese Dixon-Waters, Stanford's Harrison Ingram or France's Ilane Fibleuil, coach Mick Cronin is bound to have several new bodies to work with in his rotation.
