UCLA Basketball: Bruins Freshman Wins Major Pac-12 Award
UCLA Bruins men's basketball freshman starting point guard Sebastian Mack was named as the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, per a UCLA presser. It's his second such honor this season.
The 6'3" backcourt star is a bit of a surprise pick, given that his team lost both its games last week. Across those contests, the four-star recruit out of Chicago logged averages of 22 points, four rebounds and 2.5 dimes, in defeats against CSUN on Tuesday and Maryland on Friday.
He was previously named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week on November 27th.
UCLA finished its non-conference run with a paltry 5-6 record. The Bruins have stumbled out of the gate, struggling with chemistry issues that seem to stem from major roster churn. The club has added eight new players, all freshmen aside from junior ex-Utah Utes transfer Lazar Stefanovic.
Per UCLA, Mack's 62 made foul line shots currently pace the entire conference. On the season, Mack is averaging 15.2 points on .389/.269/.795 shooting splits, 4.5 rebounds, two steals, 1.6 assists through his first 11 college contests.
Mack and the rest of the Bruins will next suit up against the 8-3 Oregon State Beavers this Thursday night at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis, Oregon.
