UCLA Basketball: Bruins Raise Astronomical Sum For Great Cause

The Dribble for Victory Over Cancer drive was a roaring success...
In this story:

For the 16th straight year, both the UCLA Men's and Women's basketball teams came together to raise money in the fight against childhood cancer.Β

The Dribble for Victory Over Cancer event took place this past weekend on campus at Drake Stadium.Β

According to the UCLA Athletics Twitter account, over $140,000 was raised specifically to benefit research at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, and also the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation.Β

Various events took place on the track and inside of Pauley Pavilion. Members of both teams took time to sign autographs, take pictures, and spend time with those who were participating in the wonderful cause.Β

There was a one-mile course set up for participants to enjoy, which took them through campus and ultimately to Pauley Pavilion.Β

Since its inception, UCLA alone has reportedly raised nearly $2 million dollars collectively over the years.

The event is also working in tandem with The V Foundation through the Dick Vitale Fund. As many know, The V Foundation was created by the late basketball coach Jim Valvano. He paired with ESPN to create a foundation whose sole purpose is to raise funds for cancer research.Β

According to The V Foundation's official website, over $310 million has been raised for requisite research.Β

The three-hour event truly showcased the altruistic nature of both basketball teams. Players were engaged with participants and were thoroughly enjoying themselves (as shown in the videos above).Β
