UCLA Basketball: Dylan Andrews' Big Night Vs USC Impresses Mick Cronin

Dylan Andrews leads team in huge rivalry win.

In UCLA basketball's big 65-50 rivalry win over USC, it was sophomore guard Dylan Andrews who helped propel the Bruins to victory.

USC was leading for much of the first period before the Bruins went on a run to grab the lead heading into the half. The run got a big spark from Andrews, who hit a huge three early in the run as the Bruins outscored USC 17-2 late in the first.

In total, Andrews put up 20 points, two rebounds and four assists while hitting three three-point attempts. His huge game earned acknowledgment from coach Mike Cronin following the win.

“Dylan’s been struggling and today, offensively, he gave us a massive lift,” Cronin said.

This game was a major improvement for how Andrews has played as of late. Andrews has failed to score more than 10 points over the last seven games and had a combined 17 points through the Bruins' previous three games.

Overall, this was Andrews' second-highest point total of the season and a game in which he nearly doubled his season average of 10.2 points per game.

Andrews noted that wanting to help his coach win his first game at USC was a large motivation heading into the game.

“We wanted to get this game,” Andrews said after the game. “We knew that — especially I knew — that coach Cronin, you know, they haven’t won a game at the Galen Center yet [as a staff]. So, I, for sure, wanted to get this one for him.”

Andrews' performance is just another example of the young Bruins continuing to show improved play over the last four games, in which the Bruins are now 3-1. If UCLA and Andrews can build off this momentum, the rest of the season looks much brighter for UCLA.
