UCLA Basketball: Latest On Berke Buyuktuncel's Injury

The freshman power forward is listed as day-to-day.

UCLA freshman Berke Buyuktuncel missed Saturday night's win at USC due to a wrist injury suffered in practice on Friday.

Head coach Mick Cronin addressed his injury during his postgame press conference.

“We dealt with Berke being out this week. He’s day-to-day. He banged his wrist. Hopefully, he’ll be back for our next game."

Buyuktuncel, a native of Bursa, Turkey, has started eight of the 13 games he has appeared in. He was forced to miss the first three games this season because of eligibility issues with the NCAA. The reasons are unknown.

The 6-foot-9 power forward is the fifth-highest scorer for the Bruins with 6.2 points per game. His career-high so far was 13 against Stanford on Jan. 3.

When the four-man is missing from the Bruins lineup, they are forced to play with two centers. The versatility he brings is missed when he is missing from the lineup.

Cronin isn't sure when he will be back, but did make it clear that he wants him back sooner rather than later.

“The sooner, the better. We need him.”
