UCLA Basketball: Mick Cronin's Spiraling Bruins Make Wrong Kind Of History In Maryland Loss

A worrying trend.

Last week, in their 69-60 loss to the Maryland Terrapins, your UCLA Bruins made the wrong kind of history.

Per UCLA Communications, the club has now lost two consecutive home games at Pauley Pavilion for the first time since January 2020. During head coach Mick Cronin's debut season with the franchise, the 2019-20 vintage of the Bruins fell to a pair of Pac-12 nemeses, the USC Trojans and Stanford Cardinal in January.

In that Maryland bout more recently (following a 76-72 home upset against the CSUN Matadors), the Terrapins were paced by leading scorer Jahmir Young's career-most 37 points on on 13-of-19 shooting splits (including 4-of-6 from long range), along with seven rebounds and three assists.

The Bruins have had an uneven go of it thus far.

While fielding seven freshmen on the club's roster, and thus one of the nation's youngest college teams, UCLA has gone 5-6 across its non-conference bouts this season.

The team, currently riding a four-game losing streak, is set to kick off its Pac-12 inter-conference play this season with a road matchup against the 8-3 Oregon State Beavers, led by led by 6'2" sophomore guard Jordan Pope, an 2023 All-Freshman Teamer last year who's averaging 16.9 points, 3.4 assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. The bout is slated for tomorrow night at 7 p.m. PT.
