The UCLA Bruins have started the new college basketball year 3-0, and it’s in part due to the connectedness of the players on the team. While they are a more inexperienced squad than in previous years, they all understand the mission that they are setting out on.

Guard Dylan Andrews talked about the bond being formed with freshman Sebastian Mack. The two are key parts of the UCLA team this season, and it’s been great to see.

“I mean Sebastian, that’s my guy Baz, he’s a dog. Just having the energy just like me. We both are energy guys and we both take pride in our defense. Our energy wasn’t where we wanted it to be, starting the game, so coming out of the second half, we just had a talk together, and we said ‘We just gotta get this going.’ We needed big player energy, to stop, clap, yell, to get the crowd going, get our team going. Having a guy like Mack on the backcourt with me is great.”

The camaraderie seems to be there for the Bruins early on this season, and it should bode well for them down the stretch. They are a younger team, but they also want to make sure that they achieve the goals that they set out for themselves this year.

"You know, it feels great to just play with the guys again. Any game we can play against other opponents versus playing against ourselves in practice is always great. As I get back into my rhythm, every game just feels different, every game just feels better, I’m getting used to it. And today I feel like the rim was open for me, it felt good every time I shot the ball. Any time I came off the screen or any time I had an open look, my teammates trusted me to make that shot. I make it in practice.”

The Bruins know that they still have work left to do over this long season, but they are connected. It makes life easier for head coach Mick Cronin and the team greatly benefits from it all.
