UCLA Basketball: Size Matters For Massive Bruins Front Line
Although head coach Mick Cronin opted to start fifth-year redshirt senior center Kenneth Nwuba next to All-Pac-12 sophomore power forward Adem Bona for your UCLA Bruins' 75-44 opening night victory Monday over the visiting Saint Francis University Red Flash, the club's front line of the future is expected to be Bona next to anticipated wunderkind freshman Aday Mara, a 7'3" center out of Spain.
Bona, for one, is excited to see the damage they can do together in this year's college ranks, writes Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times.
“Aday is just a big human being,” Bona said. “He’s such an amazing talent and I think it’s going to be trouble for teams having both of us on the floor.”
“That’s something that people don’t understand,” Bona said of his teammate. “They think he’s 7'3" and he can’t move well; that dude can also guard the pick-and-roll really well with his frame, with his size and his length, his wingspan. Good luck to people trying to get around that.”
Mara came off the bench for his NCAA debut. In six minutes, he scored two points, making his lone field goal attempt, blocked one shot and dished out one dime.
