UCLA Basketball: Sports Media CEO Breaks Down Peyton Watson’s Summer League Film
It is definitely hard to truly showcase one's full individual talent at the college level of basketball, especially at a school like UCLA. Former Bruins forward Peyton Watson logged a single season with them as he suited up in 32 games and averaged three points and three rebounds in a very limited role while doing most of productive work on the defensive end.
He was selected at the end of the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets and he was not asked to step into a huge role right away. Denver welcomed back plenty of key names after they recovered from injury and seeing how they shortened their rotation once the playoffs got closer, Watson wasn't expected to be a difference-maker right away.
The 22-year-old got to witness that championship run up close and he also suited up in this most recent summer league for the Nuggets and truly shined with averages of almost 20 points and four boards. He was doing most of his scoring in the mid-range and he looked extremely comfortable working out of the pick and roll.
Jordan Richard, professional basketball player and CEO of Swish Cultures, broke down some of Watson's game film from this summer and he pointed out a number of plays that should have both Nuggets fans and UCLA fans very excited.
Have a look for yourself!
Richard pointed out how Watson was able to make quick decisions and only needed a couple of dribbles to get to where he needed to go. We already know the value he brings on the defensive end but to see how his body control and offensive bag are getting deeper, he could be a huge factor for the Nuggets this year.
One of the top comments on this post mentioned how Watson's stock may be a reason why Denver allowed Bruce Brown to walk to the Pacers and that does leave you pondering.
