UCLA Basketball: Unlikely Hero Propels Bruins In Rivalry Game Win

Sophomore guard snaps UCLA's five-year losing streak at USC.

Dylan Andrews was averaging 9.6 points per game before his UCLA Bruins took down the USC Trojans 65-50 at the Galen Center on Saturday night.

The sophomore guard decided it was his turn to step up. Accordingly, he led the Bruins to their first win at USC since 2018 with a game-high 20 points.

UCLA held their rival to their lowest point total this season and dominated in almost every aspect of the game. They outshot the Trojans thanks to 15 offensive rebounds which resulted in 17 second-chance points.

The Bruins out-rebounded the Trojans 43-29 and sophomore center Adem Bona had 10 of them to go along with his 10 points.

Junior wing Lazar Stefanovic added 17 points and was 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Reserve guard Oziya Sellers was the leading scorer for USC with 10 and returning All-Pac-12 starter Boogie Ellis was held to just eight points.

The Bruins got help from several players who don't normally command attention. Freshman Devin Williams made plays on both ends of the court in the first half and made the most of his playing time with plays like the one below.

It was a 17-2 run with less than two minutes to play in the opening half that pushed the Bruins to a comfortable 11-point lead at the break.

Bona broke through in the second half. He was a man on a mission inside the paint.

Stefanovic put the game away with his second three-pointer of the night with just over two minutes left in the game.

The Bruins return home to Pauley Pavilion for games against Oregon State and Oregon on Thursday, February 1st, and Saturday, February 3rd.
