UCLA News: Bruins To Honor John Wooden In Postage Stamp Reveal

The winningest coach in collegiate hoops history is being commemorated once again!

10-time NCAA championship-winning UCLA Bruins men’s basketball head coach John Wooden will be celebrated by the United States Postal Service this year with a special stamp.

Per Ben Bolch of The Los Angeles Times, the Bruins have scheduled a free, public-facing dedication ceremony for the Wooden postage in Pauley Pavilion at 1 p.m. February 24th, ahead of their second battle this season against crosstown rival the USC Trojans. Neither club is where it wants to be at this point in the season, as both the Bruins (6-10) and Trojans (8-9) are under .500.

Bolch adds that the stamp will be available for preorder on January 24th (incidentally, three days ahead of UCLA's first meeting with USC this year, on enemy territory at the Galen Center).

For those in need of a refresher, Wooden served as the Bruins' head coach from 1948-1975. He led the club to 19 NCAA Tournament appearances, including the aforementioned 10 titles. His disciples in Westwood included future Hall of Famers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Jamaal Wilkes and Gail Goodrich. He led UCLA to four separate undefeated (30-0) regular seasons, in 1963-64, 1966-67, 1971-72, and 1972-73, all of which the Bruins went on to win.
