WATCH: Tyger Campbell Talks UCLA Facing Oregon State on the Road
UCLA men's basketball point guard Tyger Campbell spoke to reporters ahead of Tuesday morning's practice session at the Mo Ostin Basketball Center. Campbell talked about what the Bruins need to do to beat Oregon State on Thursday, Dylan Andrews' progression off the bench, moving on to the latter part of his collegiate career and the different road environments across the Pac-12.
What do you guys have to do this week to keep winning?
Well, we try to go up on Thursday, we got Oregon State first, they're a good shooting team and they play well at home. So we just got to come prepared for that. And then on Saturday in Eugene, we just gotta be ready. But we're taking it one day at a time, so we're just worried about Oregon State.
Keys to get a win Thursday against OSU?
Obviously, going on the road, you got to take care of the ball. And their home record is very solid. So, we know that play better at home, so we got to be prepared for that. And also not taking them lightly. Just because their record doesn't mean they're not a good team and we're not preparing the best that we can for them. So we know they have good players over there. And we just need to be ready to play when we get up there.
Dylan's progression?
It's been great. Like when he gets in the game, he gives us good minutes offensively and defensively. He's picking up the ball for court. And I think he's just a gamer, you know, a guy that's just always ready to play. You can throw him in and he'll figure it out. So I think he's done really good and I think this offseason will be really big for him going into next year.
Taking it all in when going on road for (potentially) last time?
Yeah, of course. I've been playing in this league for four years now. Like you said, I do have another year of ability, but yeah, it has been a little bit of a tour just going to each place on the road. So, I'm excited to go up there and just play, honestly. I know I have so many few games left and I'm just trying not to take advantage of any one of them. So every game is very important.
Favorite place to play on the road?
Nah. I like playing at Pauley.
How is Tyger now playing on the road versus four years ago?
Just every team is dangerous at home. Doesn't matter who it is or who they have. Every team is ready to play at home in front of their home crowd and get a win. So I'd say going on the road from four years from now, it's just, I'm more prepared because I've played there before. So I'm going in and I know what to expect with the crowd and the players and the coach. It's really just, try not to take advantage of these games. They're all really important.
Different sightlines on the road?
I wouldn't say so. Do you mean like backdrops?
Backdrops, how the rim feels, how it looks – the floor at Oregon?
Oregon's floor is pretty dope, or, you know, crazy. But nah, every gym is pretty much the same to me at this point. We've played in so many different ones. Big arenas to smaller ones. So that doesn't really affect me.
