UCLA Women's Basketball: Bruins Vanquish UConn, Remain Undefeated
Your UCLA women's basketball program is off to a red-hot start, having most recently beaten the University of Connecticut Huskies 78-67 during a Cayman Islands Classic invitational bout on Friday.
Star sophomore point guard Kiki Rice led the way with 24 points, 11 rebounds and eight dimes. Three-time All-Pac-12 UCLA guard Charisma Osborne chipped in 18 points, while sophomore transfer Lauren Betts notched 13 points and seven boards in the win.
2021 Associated Press Player of the Year Paige Bueckers, Connecticut's star point guard, paced everyone with 31 points in defeat. The loss drops the Huskies to a middling 3-2 record on the year, while improving UCLA to 5-0.
The Bruins led by as many as 19 points in the opening half and 21 in the second. In both instances, UConn managed to mount some level of comeback. But ultimately, it would fall short. UConn was limited to just 33.3% shooting from the floor, while the Bruins connected on 45.8% of their field goal tries.
UCLA next squares off against the Niagara University Purple Eagles today at 10:30 a.m. PT as the Cayman Islands Classic continues.
