UCLA Football: Bruins Land Miami Transfer Defensive Lineman Collins Acheampong

Acheampong was considered a fantastic prospect when he graduated high school last year.

UCLA football is adding a fifth transfer player, this time out of Miami. 

According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, defensive lineman Collins Acheampong has committed to UCLA. Acheampong will have four seasons of eligibility left after having spent only one season at The U. The enormous Acheampong (6-8, 270 pounds) is originally from Ghana, but played high school ball close to UCLA at Santa Margarita High School in Southern California. Per Fawcett, UCLA was the first school to 'notice' Acheampong's talent. 

"I get to be closer to family and friends as well and also play for one of the best D-line coaches," Acheampong told Fawcett.

Adding Achaempong is an exciting prospect for Bruin fans, but given that Achaempong didn't have any recorded stats during his brief stint with the Hurricanes. He was a late flip form Michigan to Miami, and during his high school recruitment, he was comparatively newer to the sport of football than his peers. 

Bruins fans should not expect Achaempong to come in right away and be a game wrecker for opposing offenses. As a football player, Achaempong is a work in progress with a high ceiling given his size/speed combination.

Achaempong becomes the fifth player to join the Bruins over the last month or so. He joins safety Marcus Ratcliffe from San Diego State, wide receiver Rico Flores out of Notre Dame, safety Bryan Addison from Oregon, and kicker Mateen Bhaghani from Cal. Achaempong will likely take some time before he develops into a consistent contributor for the Bruin defense.
