UCLA Women's Basketball: Cori Close Disappointed With Bruins... Despite 29-Point Blowout

Cori Close unhappy despite dominant win.

UCLA women's basketball may have gotten a 70-41 win over Arizona State on Thursday, but it would be hard to tell from head coach Cori Close's reaction.

Despite winning by almost thirty points, Close focused on the missed opportunities the team had, which could have cost them against a better opponent.

“The numbers may show better than how we played. We realize we have a great opportunity in front of us, but not the rest of the year can we come out with that lackluster effort and focus."

The Bruins put up 33 points in the first half, when they could have had plenty more. Another area UCLA slipped during the game was turnovers, where the team registered 14, compared to 10 for the Sun Devils.

Close emphasized the limited amount of opportunities the team has, especially heading into March.

“The next time happens, you’re done. We’re only guaranteed three more games in this season, and this team has too many special goals to let it be three more. It’s all in front of you. The only thing that gets in our way and can keep us from where we want to go is us.”

The Bruins only have one regular season game remaining, which will come against Arizona on Saturday. Then, UCLA travels to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Pac-12 women's basketball tournament which will determine the conference's champion. The tournament begins on March 6.
