UCLA Women's Basketball: Sophomore Bruins Tame Wildcats

Sophomore Bruins combined for 55 of UCLA's 66 points.

After a mysterious four-game absence, star sophomore Bruins center Lauren Betts returned to the UCLA lineup on Friday night but it was her classmates who shined the brightest in a 66-58 win over Arizona.

The sophomore class scored all but 11 of the Bruins' points and were led by Gabriela Jaquez and Kiki Rice who combined for 41 points.

Jaquez led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor and set a new career-high with 15 rebounds. Rice scored 20 and shot 9-for-12 from the field, a tally which included 2-for-2 from behind the arc.

Betts had six points and nine boards in her first game since missing the last four due to undisclosed reasons.

Rice got things going with 10 points in the first quarter. She had the Wildcats falling for all the pump fakes.

Jaquez started heating up in the second quarter when she knocked down two treys.

Charisma Osborne only had eight points but she dished out six dimes.

Jaquez and Osborne teamed up to break the full-court press with a baseline pass downcourt resulting in an easy layup that ended all hopes of an Arizona comeback.
