UCLA Women's Basketball: Sophomore Star Reflects On 1st Triple-Double Vs CSUN

Are there more to come?

UCLA Bruins women’s basketball sophomore guard Kiki Rice found a variety of ways to contribute to her club’s dominant, wire-to-wire 111-48 victory over the Cal State Northridge Matadors on Thursday. She notched a 14-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple double, with seven steals to boot.

Five other Bruins scored in double figures, while helping lift the team, currently the Associated Press’ No. 2-ranked program in the country, to a spotless 8-0 record. But Rice and her triple double have been the talk of the night.

Rice, as is her custom on the court, proved diplomatically deferential to her teammates when discussing the achievement, per Grace Whitaker of The Daily Bruin.

“Obviously a big accomplishment – I’m super excited about it (the triple-double), more excited about the win,” Rice said. “But it’s a really big testament to my teammates. You can’t assist the ball to yourself.”

Head coach Cori Close also observed that Rice’s teammates were equally amped for her, in a nice overall showing of selflessness.

“What I’m really proud of is that, when Kiki gets her first triple-double, that her team is so excited for her because of the kind of teammate she is – because they know the work ethic she has and the extra time she puts in,” Close said.
