PORTSMOUTH, Va. – UConn senior Tyrese Martin has been named to the Portsmouth Invitational All-Tournament Team after helping lead his team to the championship game of the prestigious tourney.

In three games over a four-day span, Martin averaged 19.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists, including two double-doubles, as his team, sponsored by Roger Brown's Restaurant, reached the championship finals before bowing to Sales Systems, LTD, 106-94.

The 6-6 guard from Allentown, Pa., shot .558 overall, .353 from three-point range, and .714 from the foul line. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds in a 107-103 win in the team's tourney opener, 21 points and 8 rebounds in an 88-82, second-round victory, and a team-high 24 points with a game-high 10 rebounds in the title game.

The All-Tournament Team included 12 players of the 64 players, divided into eight teams, who were invited to participate in the tournament, held annually at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Va. The 67-year-old tourney is a showcase for scouts from the NBA and other worldwide professional leagues.

Martin's UConn teammates, R.J. Cole and Isaiah Whaley, were also invited to participate in the Portsmouth Invitational. Cole averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists in three games, while Whaley posted averages of 3.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in three games.

Martin's outstanding play at Portsmouth continued a successful postseason for the UConn guard, which includes selections to the All-BIG EAST Tournament Team and the USBWA All-District Team. On Final Four weekend in New Orleans, he scored 22 points to help lead his East squad to a 115-103 win in the NABC-Reese's College All-Star Game and he teamed with Cole to win the Dos Equis National 3x3 Championship.
