Softball: Huskies Drop Final Game of Northern Lights Tournament
Huskies closed out the Northern Lights Tournament with a tough 4-3 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers. Marybeth Olson started the game pitching 0.1 innings and gave up all 4 of the Badgers runs in the first inning. Meghan O'Neil came in relief pitching a tremendous 5.2 innings shutting down the Badgers hitters with a season-high 8 strikeouts.
The Huskies got the bats going in the fourth inning as Freshman Rosie Garcia sparked the Huskies offense with a leadoff double. She later scored the Huskies' first run off an error hit by Senior Olivia Sappington. The Huskies loaded the bases for Senior Aziah James who walked, scoring the Huskies' second run of the game making it 4-2 Badgers. The Huskies continued to chip away at the Wisconsin lead in the fifth scoring another run off the bat of Senior Sami Barnett scoring Briana Marcelino on a single cutting the Badger lead to 4-3.
The Huskies kept threatening, putting runners on the basepaths in the sixth and seventh innings but could not manage to get the tying run across.
UConn finishes their 2022 opening weekend tournament with a 2-3 record on the young season. They will be in action next weekend in the Charlotte Invitational.
