Softball: Huskies Open Providence Series With 3-1 Win
Storrs, CT – UConn beats Providence in game one of the series. Move to 14-2 in the BIG EAST.
Elise Sokolsky got the start in the circle in the series opener. She pitched a strong five innings only giving up two hits and striking out ten.
Briana Marcelino opened the scoring for the Huskies in the second inning with a triple to bring in Erika Coreth. She would later come around to score to make it 2-0 Huskies.
UConn added to the lead in the fourth inning. Pinch-runner Makenzie Mason scored on a wild pitch to extend the Huskies' lead to 3-0.
The Friars got a run back in the fifth inning to trim the Huskies' lead to 3-1.
Marybeth Olson came in for Sokolsky in the fifth inning. She closed out the win for the Huskies pitching two shutout innings, not giving up a single hit to the Friars.
The Huskies will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 pm in game two against Providence.
