Hubert Davis believes North Carolina is a 'better shooting' team

The 2022-2023 campaign by all intents and purposes was a disappointment for North Carolina after beginning the year ranked No. 1.

A huge reason for their struggles was the inability to consistently shoot the basketball. The Tar Heels connected on just 31.2 percent of their three-point attempts and shot over 100 more than their opponents over the course of the season.

After a roster overhaul that saw seven departures and five players enter Chapel Hill via the portal, the new look North Carolina squad is focused on correcting the narrative.

In his first press conference since March, head coach Hubert Davis addressed the changes and what he has seen from his team so far.

One point, in particular, was that the new look Tar Heels have the ability to shoot the basketball, bringing in multiple sharpshooters alongside R.J. Davis.

"I thought last year, we weren’t a very good outside shooting team. There’s 15 teams in the ACC and we were 15th in 3-point shooting percentage," said Davis on Thursday. "I think [with] the team that we have now, I think we’re a better shooting team."

The additions of Notre Dame transfer Cormac Ryan, Louisville transfer Jae'Lyn Withers, and Brown transfer Paxson Wojcik vastly improve the shooting percentages for North Carolina.

Ryan is a career 35 percent three-point shooter, connecting on a career-high 40.7 percent of his attempts in the 2021-2022 season.

Withers was impressive from beyond the arc last season, converting 41.7 percent of his attempts, taking 2.1 per game.

As for Wojcik, he has shot 38 percent or better in three of his four collegiate seasons, including last year, when he was successful on 2.6 attempts per game.

Not to be forgotten is Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram, who, despite struggling in an offense that heavily relied on him, can easily take over a contest and aid the Tar Heels' outside shooting.

Although it is only July and the first contest for North Carolina is over three months away, they appear to be on the right track in making improvements.

Will the new look roster live up to their ability to shoot the three ball?
