Greensboro Swarm acquires Joel Berry from Lakers organization
The Charlotte Hornets organization is adding another Tar Heel after acquiring Joel Berry on Friday evening.
A free-agent signing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the summer of 2018, Berry spent his rookie season with G-League affiliate South Bay, where he played 21 games, averaging 11.1 points and 2.5 assists.
He was seemingly pleased with the move.
Berry spent three preseason games with Los Angeles before being waived and joining South Bay, where he suffered a season-ending injury in March.
His jersey went to the Smith Center after being named Most Outstanding Player in the 2017 Final Four, where he led Carolina to its sixth NCAA championship.
A first-team All-ACC selection in his senior season, Berry averaged 17.1 points and 3.5 rebounds.
Previously, Marcus Paige spent one season with the Hornets organization, playing five games for Charlotte and 46 in Greensboro.
The Swarm opens its home schedule on Nov. 13 against the Westchester Knicks.
