UNC Basketball: Yet Another Top-10 Talent Lands Tar Heel Offer

Five-star combo guard Jasper Johnson is now on the UNC basketball wishlist.

As of the UNC basketball recruiters' reported offer to Link Academy (Mo.) five-star junior Jasper Johnson on Monday afternoon, the Tar Heels have eight targets in the 2025 cycle. Only one, Christopher Columbus (Fla.) five-star combo guard Cayden Boozer (No. 17 overall in the eyes of 247Sports) ranks outside the top 10 in the class.

The offer to Johnson came during third-year UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis' visit to his school.

Johnson, a 6-foot-4, 170-pound combo guard and teammate to a 2024 UNC pledge in four-star center James Brown, has skyrocketed 24 spots to No. 9 overall since the debut of the 2025 rankings around this time last year. He ranks No. 1 in Missouri among his 2025 peers.

Suppose the Tar Heels ultimately prevail for Johnson over his more than a dozen other suitors. In that case, the lightfooted playmaker would become the third Link Academy player to pledge allegiance to UNC basketball in as many cycles, joining Brown and current five-star rookie point guard Elliot Cadeau.

In other words, a pipeline from Link Academy to Chapel Hill appears to be in the works.

Thus far, Davis and his staff have neither landed a commitment on the 2025 trail nor scheduled official visits from their targets. But it's safe to say they have their sights set high when constructing their 2025 class.
