Voters: No Penalty for UNC Basketball Loss to UConn

Last week's defeat did not ding UNC basketball's AP ranking.

The UNC basketball team went 0-1 last week but remained at No. 9 in the latest edition of the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released on Monday afternoon. And the team that defeated the Tar Heels (7-2, 1-0 ACC), defending national champion UConn (9-1, 0-0 Big East), stayed put at No. 5 this week.

Among two-loss squads, UNC sits below only No. 7 Marquette.

For the second week in a row, head coach Hubert Davis' third batch of Tar Heels, who began the season with a No. 19 by their name, are the highest-ranked ACC representative in the AP Top 25.

A season-high five ACC teams are ranked this week. The other four are No. 13 Clemson (9-0, 1-0 ACC), No. 21 Duke (6-3, 0-1 ACC), No. 22 Virginia (8-1, 1-0 ACC), and No. 24 Miami (7-2, 1-0 ACC).

UNC basketball is now gearing up for a top-15 showdown against No. 14 Kentucky (7-2, 0-0 SEC) in Atlanta's State Farm Arena on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. ET (CBS) as part of the CBS Sports Classic.

Then, the Tar Heels face No. 11 Oklahoma (9-0, 0-0 Big 12) at the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte's Spectrum Center on Dec. 20 at 9 p.m. (ESPN). That outing against the Sooners, who first host Green Bay on Saturday, should mark UNC's fifth in a six-game span against opponents ranked at the time of their meeting.
