There's a little pep in Jay Bateman's step this afternoon.

After months of waiting, the NCAA has ruled that Cam'Ron Kelly, who transferred to North Carolina from Auburn in April, will be eligible to play immediately after receiving a waiver from the NCAA.

"I think Cam Kelly is a good player," Bateman said on Monday before the news. "I hope he gets eligible, that would pep me up, but until that point, we’re handling it like we don’t think he’s going to be eligible."

A 6-1, 200-pound defensive back, Kelly was considered a four-star recruit by 247 Sports and was ranked No. 10 among athletes nationally in the 2019 recruiting class.

The native of Chesapeake, Va. enrolled at Auburn in January before transferring to Carolina in April.

Since arriving in Chapel Hill, Kelly has been working out at cornerback and has the size and ability to make an immediate impact for the Tar Heels on Saturday.
