Looking to rebound from last week's deflating 31-27 home loss to Virginia, UNC football sophomore signal caller Drake Maye led (with plenty of help from sophomore running back Omarion Hampton) an eight-play, 75-yard drive to give the No. 17 Tar Heels (6-1, 3-1 ACC) a 7-0 lead at Georgia Tech (3-4, 2-2 ACC) on Saturday night.

Maye was 2-of-2 for 31 yards through the air on that opening drive for the Tar Heels, following a stop by UNC's defense. The 21-year-old Charlotte native capped it off by throwing into a tight window across the middle of the field to connect with junior tight end Bryson Nesbit for a 14-yard touchdown.

It marked the 66th score of Maye's career (54 passing, 12 rushing). That's one more than former UNC football quarterback TJ Yates, giving Maye sole possession of fifth place on the program's all-time touchdown list.

The top four Tar Heels on that list (all quarterbacks) are Sam Howell (109 TDs), Marquis Williams (96), Darian Durant (79), and Bryn Renner (68).

Chances are Maye, a projected 2024 first-round draft pick, will pass Bryn Renner this week or next. After all, he needs only two more to tie, and UNC hosts Campbell next week.

Five minutes after Drake Maye's TD toss to Bryson Nesbit, Omarion Hampton found the end zone for the ninth time this season via a 17-yard run. At the time of this article's publishing, the Tar Heels led in Atlanta, 14-7, early in the second quarter.
