Drake Maye named to Maxwell Award Watch List
After a breakout campaign in 2022 that saw North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye earn ACC Player of the Year honors, it comes as no surprise that he is receiving preseason recognition ahead of 2023.
On Monday, the redshirt sophomore was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, an award given annually to the most outstanding player in college football.
Maye was named alongside the likes of USC's Caleb Williams, Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr., Michigan's Blake Corum, and Georgia's Brock Bowers.
Thanks to his performance in 2022, Maye is heralded among college football's best and could very well see his name called first in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Maye threw for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns in 14 games in 2022, while showcasing his dual-threat ability and tallying 698 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.
He helped guide the Tar Heels to a 9-1 start and berth in the ACC Championship Game, their first visit since 2015.
While the improvement of the North Carolina defense is a major focus for the team and fans alike, all eyes will be on Drake Maye and the offense when they open up the season against South Carolina on Sept. 3 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
Will Maye carry over his success from a season ago and help the Tar Heels record a successful season under Mack Brown?
