Despite missing out on in-state linebacker James Nesta on Tuesday, North Carolina has not missed a beat on the recruiting trail, landing three-star linebacker Ashton Woods.

Woods chose the Tar Heels over the likes of Baylor, Wake Forest, Miami, and NC State. He is rated as the No. 77 best linebacker in the class of 2024 and the No. 486 ranked prospect.

Prior to his commitment, Woods did not have a Crystal Ball logged, making the rather unexpected decision a pleasant surprise.

In 2022 with Walton High School out of Marietta, GA, Woods led the roster with 128 tackles. He added in a team-high 11 tackles-for-loss, five sacks, and one interception.

With his pledge to Mack Brown and the UNC football staff, he becomes the 19th commitment for North Carolina in the class of 2024. He joins three-stars Evan Bennett and Crews Law as linebacker pledges for the Tar Heels in the rising junior class.

North Carolina now holds the No. 15 rated recruiting class and the second best in the ACC. Woods' commitment helped the Tar Heels jump Pittsburgh, as Clemson sits just two spots ahead of them at No. 13 overall.

Will North Carolina maintain their hot stretch on the recruiting trail and overtake the Tigers for the best class in the ACC?
