UNC Football: Drake Maye Throws Picture-Perfect 500th Completion
UNC football faced a 7-0 deficit early in the first quarter against the visiting Virginia Cavaliers (1-5, 0-2 ACC) in Kenan Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. Then, the No. 10 Tar Heels (6-0, 3-0 ACC) enjoyed their emerging Drake Maye-Tez Walker connection.
A few plays after finding Walker twice for a total of seven yards, Maye delivered a perfectly placed 25-yard laser throw to the 6-foot-3, 200-pound electric junior wide receiver's outstretched arms at the goal line.
It was Tez Walker's fourth touchdown reception in his three outings this season.
Furthermore, as the program's social media pointed out in the caption to the following posted highlight, the impressive score marked the 500th completion of Drake Maye's prolific UNC football career:
Maye entered the game with 62 touchdowns (passing and rushing) across his three years as a Tar Heel. The 6-foot-4, 240-pound projected first-round draft pick ranks No. 6 in program history in that department.
With his 63rd touchdown via his 500th completion and his 64th via a 62-yard touchdown through the air to junior tight end Bryson Nesbit early in the second quarter to tie the score again at 14-14, Maye now needs only two more touchdowns to pass TJ Yates — Sam Howell's 109 scores lead the way — as of this article's publishing.
Following the game against Virginia, UNC football will prepare for next Saturday's battle at Georgia Tech before hosting Campbell in Week 9.
