UNC Football Lands Another Commitment on 2024 Recruiting Trail
The UNC football recruiters needed another defensive lineman to fill out their 2024 class as they gear up for the early signing period, Dec. 20-22. It seems the Tar Heels got what they've been looking for in Lee County (Ga.) senior Leroy Jackson.
They extended an offer to him in September.
Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 275-pound three-star who ranks No. 1,437 overall, No. 145 among defensive linemen, and No. 154 in Georgia on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, held over two dozen offers. He took an official visit with the Tar Heels in mid-October, attending UNC's home win over Miami during his stay in Chapel Hill.
Although Leroy Jackson waited until this weekend to announce his commitment, he informed On3's Chad Simmons that the Tar Heel staff knew it was coming for weeks.
"It was beautiful," Jackson explained to Simmons about his experience watching the Tar Heels defeat the Hurricanes, who were too late to the race when they extended him an offer the following week. "I loved the fans. Their defensive line showed me a lot, and then their academics are strong.
"Before I left the official visit, I committed to the coaches. I knew my decision while I was still on campus."
He also visited Appalachian State and Iowa State.
With 27 commits in tow, including eight composite four-stars and 19 three-stars, UNC football's 2024 haul now ranks No. 27 in the country, according to 247Sports.
