Veteran UNC Football Player 'Seeking an Opportunity Elsewhere'
On Sunday night, less than 24 hours after the Tar Heels fell to NC State in the regular season finale in Raleigh, 39-20, veteran UNC football tight end Kamari Morales revealed on social media that he's entering the transfer portal.
Morales totaled 11 receptions for 158 yards this season, his lowest production level since the 2020 campaign.
Here's what the 6-foot-2, 245-pound graduate student, a former three-star recruit out of Florida, wrote in his statement to the program and its fans:
"First of all, I want to thank God for everything he has done in my life. He has been consistent in my life through the ups and downs. Secondly, I want to thank my family for making me the man I am today and their unwavering love and support.
"I want to thank my teammates for making me a better football player and leader throughout the years. The lessons that I have learned from working with such great guys is better than any degree I will ever receive.
"I also want to thank my coaches for the opportunity to play at the University of North Carolina. I especially want to thank Coach Lilly and Bubba Cunningham for all of their support throughout my UNC career. Additionally, I want to extend gratitude to all staff members that contributed to my development and success.
"Lastly, I want to thank all of my classmates and the UNC fanbase for their continuous support of me both on and off the field.
"With that being said, I will be entering the transfer portal and seeking an opportunity elsewhere. I will forever be a Tarheel. And I am a proud alum!"
Presumably, Kamari Morales won't play for the Tar Heels (8-4, 4-4 ACC) in their bowl game (they'll learn their bowl destination on Sunday).
Wherever the UNC football product ends up, he has one year of eligibility remaining.
