UNC Football Recruiting Haul Includes Budding Quarterback
One day after announcing his offer from the Tar Heels, Michael Merdinger revealed his verbal pledge to UNC football head coach Mack Brown and his staff. That was in early May. On Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period for 2024 recruits, the Cardinal Gibbons High School (Fla.) three-star signal caller made it official.
Merdinger, the lone quarterback in the Tar Heels' collection, ranks No. 61 at his position on the 247Sports 2024 Composite.
The Tar Heels welcomed Merdinger to the "Flight Club" by posting the following hype video and highlight mixtape to social media:
Here is 247Sports' evaluation of Merdinger's blossoming skillset under center:
"Having not grown up in the U.S. and only starting one season of varsity ball, Merdinger is greener than most Power 5 quarterback recruits. But, the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder gets the ball out quickly and accurately, at least on short to intermediate passes.
"Moreover, he has tremendous pocket presence: he keeps his eyes fixated downfield while meticulously shuffling away from the rush. And, he keeps accuracy and velocity while on the move."
Michael Merdinger is part of 27-deep UNC football recruiting class that ranks No. 26 in the country and No. 4 in the ACC.
