Since its inception in 2018, the transfer portal has grown into a main source for talent for college football programs.

Coaching staffs oftentimes seek older, more experienced players over adding a few extra freshmen to a recruiting class.

As for North Carolina, they have hit the portal hard this offseason, adding a handful of immediate contributors on both sides of the ball.

One of the said contributors is wide receiver Devontez Walker, a transfer from Kent State.

On Wednesday, 247 Sports listed Walker as the No. 2 transfer in the ACC, behind only cornerback Fentrell Cypress, who transferred from Virginia to Florida State.

Walker is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina and began his career at North Carolina Central before transferring to the MAC. He spent two seasons with the Golden Flashes, turning into an elite receiver.

In 2022, he paced Kent State in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns, hauling in 58 passes for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns.

He eclipsed the 100-yard mark on four separate occasions, including seven receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown against Georgia.

With the departure of Josh Downs and Antoine Green, who both were selected in this year's NFL Draft, Walker is expected to play a big role in the Tar Heel offense led by Heisman Trophy candidate Drake Maye.

As he returns to his home state, Walker will serve as a deep-threat for Maye and give North Carolina another layer to their offense.

Will Walker live up to be the second best transfer in the ACC?
