Roy Williams Watches UNC Basketball Product Orchestrate Statement Win
On Wednesday night, the Chicago Bulls (28-31), ninth in the Eastern Conference and still well in contention for a playoff spot, picked up an encouraging 132-123 home double-overtime win over the East's second-place Cleveland Cavaliers (38-20). UNC basketball pro Coby White served as the Bulls' on-point, on-time distributor.
And now-retired Tar Heel treasure Roy Williams was in the building, just two nights after watching No. 9 UNC pull out a 75-71 home victory over Miami on the back of RJ Davis' historic 42-point effort.
The Bulls' social media team advertised the 73-year-old Hall of Famer's attendance via the following posted picture of Williams catching up with Chicago head coach and former back-to-back Florida national champion Billy Donovan during warmups:
White, in his fifth season with the Bulls since getting drafted No. 7 following his brilliant one-and-done campaign under Williams' guidance in Chapel Hill, didn't give his college coach quite the scoring show that Davis delivered on Monday night. He shot only 5-for-20 from the field and 2-for-13 from three en route to 14 points.
But the 24-year-old guard, averaging a career-high 19.3 points and 5.3 assists while starting all 59 Bulls games thus far, dished out a game-high 12 assists across his game-high 50 minutes. He added eight rebounds, one steal, and one block, committing only three turnovers and finishing with a game-high plus/minus of +16.
Next on the slate for Coby White and the steadily improving Chicago Bulls is a home bout against the East's third-place Milwaukee Bucks (39-21) at 10 p.m. ET Friday.
