USC Basketball: Andy Enfield Officially Leaves USC for SMU

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Andy Enfield is no longer the coach of the USC Trojans men's basketball program. SMU basketball has officially announced that Enfield will become their new basketball coach, after they fired previous coach Rob Lanier earlier this season. The announcement comes after reports that Enfield would be leaving USC for SMU began around last week.

Enfield leaves the Trojans after over a decade with the program. Enfield, who joined USC in 2013 after previously serving as the coach of Florida Gulf Coast, departs after his worst season with USC since 2014-2015. The Trojans finished with a 15-18 overall record and an 8-12 conference record, their first losing record in five years. Though USC struggled with injuries to some of their key players like five-star recruit Isaiah Collier, their 2023-2024 season was overall disappointing, especially after USC made March Madness the last three seasons.

Still, Enfield was overall a winner with USC during his tenure. Enfield finished with a 220-146 overall record and a 105-100 conference record at USC. His Trojans made the March Madness tournament five different times, including advancing all the way to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2021. Under Enfield's tutelage, USC became a threat in college basketball for the first time in years.

As Enfield gets a fresh start at SMU, USC will now begin their search for their next basketball coach. That new coach will take over the Trojans basketball program as they head over to the Big Ten next season.
