USC Basketball: Expert Chastises Insider's Excited Preview Of 2022-24 Trojans
CBS Sports college hoops insider Jon Rothstein recently paid a visit to Galen Center to watch a practice conducted by your USC Trojans men's basketball team, now with top recruits Isaiah Collier, Bronny James and transfer DJ Rodman in tow.
Scott Wolf of InsideUSC posits that Rothstein's rabid enthusiasm about certain aspects of the club's composition, such as its alleged center depth, should be taken with a grain of salt.
Wolf notes that USC coaches tend to covertly source scheduling intel to Rothstein, and thus it's ostensibly in everyone's best interest for him to attend an early practice and hype up the team, whether or not the actual on-court performance merits any excitement.
Beyond this relationship with the team's coaches, Wolf adds that Rothstein also peddles USC-themed swag, which again suggests that it would behoove him to promote the school's basketball program.
The Trojans boast one of the most highly-regarded freshman recruiting classes in the nation, while returning stars Boogie Ellis (like Collier and James, a potential first round draft pick himself), Kobe Johnson, Joshua Morgan, and Vince Iwuchukwu look to add some veteran expertise to the proceedings.
Last year, Andy Enfield's USC club didn't advance beyond the Round of 64, falling 72-62 to Tom Izzo's Michigan State Spartans. This season, they're looking to go much further.
