USC Basketball: Stephen A. Smith Weighs In On Bronny James’ Heart Trouble
The USC community and the greater sports world at large were reeling today at the news that LeBron "Bronny" James Jr. the highly-regarding incoming freshman Trojans combo guard, suffered a cardiac arrest while working out at Galen Center early Monday morning and had to be interred at an ICU until he stabilized.
While now out of the ICU, the 6'3' Sierra Canyon School product isn't out of the woods just yet. As doctors will no doubt investigate the root cause of his situation, it remains to be seen just what his long-term fate will become.
Stephen A. Smith of ESPN weighed in on James' situation after the news broke this morning, taking a bigger-picture approach to the injury and Bronny James' family.
"When you hear that, it scares you to death because these are the kind of things that are an anomaly but nevertheless are incredibly possible," Smith acknowledged. "So when you hear about this, anything we've heard about Bronny James, we're thinking about an All-American, we're thinking about somebody that obviously has aspirations of being in the NBA.
"We've heard the great LeBron James allude to... his dream is to play in the NBA with his son," Smith continued. "And all of that gets thrown to the wayside when it comes to something like this because if you know anything about LeBron James, anything at all... nobody debates what a wonderful, loving father he is, and how much he loves his children."
We here at All Trojans are rooting for a fast recovery for Bronny James, who is projected to be a mid-first round draft pick next season should he declare for the NBA. If his body's up to it, his on-court future still looks bright. And if it isn't, we have a sneaking suspicion he'll be okay then, too.
