Former USC Men’s Basketball Star Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

The young guard was arrested early Monday morning.

Former USC Trojans and current Houston Rockets guard Kevin Porter Jr. was arrested on charges of assault and strangulation Monday morning, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon. 

Porter was arrested at a New York hotel after police responded to a 911 call at 6:45 a.m. reporting an assault. Sources told ABC News that the incident involved Porter's girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick.

"Upon arrival officers were informed that a 26-year-old female sustained a laceration to the right side of her face and was complaining about pain to her neck," the spokesperson said. "A preliminary investigation on scene determined that a known individual struck her multiple times upon her body and placed his hands around the neck."

According to sources from ABC7, the victim was upset with Porter arriving early Monday morning after an evening out, and locked the door. After entering with the help of hotel security, Porter is accused of assaulting Gondrezick.

"We are in the process of gathering information surrounding the matter involving Kevin Porter Jr.," the Houston Rockets said in a statement. "We have no further comment at this time."

Alleged misbehavior is not new terrain for Porter. The 6'6" guard spent one season at USC and at one point found himself suspended from the team for "conduct issues." He was the No. 30 pick in the 2019 draft and played one season with the Cleveland Cavaliers but did not return to the team the following season due to personal reasons.
